TEAM MENTORING
The leaders and scholars have been organized in teams of about three leaders and two scholars each, which meet one hour each week at one of the nine grade schools. Each team has a coach who attends the meetings, provides the team with additional guidance, serves as a mentor to the students, and takes attendance. During that time, the teams discuss quotations and a topic of the week; read famous speeches and develop their communication skills; engage in leadership discussions and team-building activities; and collaborate on projects as a team.
The teams also meet for a team outing once every other month. The outing is to a high school function, such as an athletic event, play, or concert. In addition, the leaders plan and execute a Leader-Scholar Day at their high schools, during which the scholars attend classes and engage in different leadership activities.
